The Piedmont Wine Region of Northern Italy...
The Piedmont wine region is remote from the rest of Italy mainland. The remoteness of this part of Italy has helped to preserve local traditions, local cuisine, and local wine styles. Some of these wines from northwestern Italy are among Italy's very greatest.
Piedmont's best wines come either from the foothills of the Apennines in the south or the foothills of the Alps in the north. |
About 90% of the wine comes from the southern part of the region. This production roughly falls into the following two areas:- The Alba area, in southcentral, which includes the Langhe Hills area and the Roero area.
- The Asti, Alessandria area, in southeast extending south of the Po River to the border with Liguria and including Monferrato Hills.
Additionally wine comes from two separate parts of northern Piedmont, and from a few, scattered wine zones in the pre-Alpine, western part of the region.
The Food is Majestic...
Piedmontese cuisine ranks among the finest in Italy. If not the world; its specialty is the numerous antipasto dishes that precede the pasta and main course.
